On March 18, AIP Foundation and the World Health Organization (WHO) Viet Nam hosted two technical workshops in Hanoi under the Viet Nam Project 2000 Road Safety Partnership. These workshops brought together government agencies, academic institutions, civil society organizations, development partners, national and international experts, and the private sector to address two critical road safety gaps: child helmet standards and safe school zones. Participants received key information about the two areas from leading road safety experts and engaged in open, interactive discussions to identify and prioritize next actions to further the efforts’ goals.
A key highlight of the workshops included a keynote address delivered by international road safety expert, Dr. Terry Smith. Through this keynote, Dr. Smith presented findings from a policy paper he developed with support from the WHO. Findings focused on the need for a child helmet standard, a global comparison of standards, and advocated for separate child helmet standards to be developed and incorporated into Vietnam technical regulations QCVN 2:2021/BKHCN.
