HO CHI MINH City, Vietnam - May 17, 2017

Nearly 360 night school students from low-income backgrounds received reflective gear to stay safe on their commutes to and from school, which often take place in the dark and along high-risk roads. During the handover event, they watched a performance about the children’s story, “the tortoise and the hare,” to learn about how to walk safely and the well-known Vietnamese artist Dinh Toan performed a comedy routine. The students, who live in District 9 of Ho Chi Minh City, also wore their new backpacks during a real-world road simulation in their community. In preparation of the event, the district-level government repainted a zebra crossing to make the environment safer for the night school students.
