AIP Foundation’s Safety Delivered program, which is supported by the UPS Foundation, reached out to Thanh Tri Primary School, Hoang Mai District, Hanoi for the first time in 2018. The school has 1,785 students and 80 teachers. This school is located along a main road with high traffic density of shipping trucks, cars, and motorcycles, making it one of six target Safety Delivered schools in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. About 80% of students go to school via their parents’ motorcycles, electric motorcycles, and bicycles. The location of the school and method of transport put the students at high risk of road traffic crash, highlighting the need for education in the district.

Forty-eight teachers at Thanh Tri Primary School in Hanoi attended a teacher training workshop. At the workshop, teachers learned useful information about road safety, especially the importance of helmet use for both children and adults, as well as strategies for teaching road safety curriculum in the classroom.

After the training, evaluations showed that the number of teachers who received “excellent” or “good” scores in road safety increased from 42.9% to 90.9%. The teachers and school board agreed to continue promoting road safety to students and their parents to ensure that they are always protected by helmets when traveling on the road.

Since 2011, AIP Foundation and the UPS Foundation have been working together to improve road safety for children and youth. Between 2011 and 2017 over 260,000 students and teachers received education and through Safety Delivered and over 40,000 helmets were distributed to primary school students and their teachers.
