BANGKOK, Thailand – November 16, 2022

As part of the Safety Delivered program supported by The UPS Foundation, a national road safety curriculum has been developed and is being introduced to students in Bangkok. Overall, the curriculum aims to strengthen road safety skills, including raising awareness of the impact of road crashes and encouraging safe road behaviors for youth. The curriculum will kick off at five pilot schools, reaching 500 students.

School visits engaging the learning communities

In early November and in preparation for the launch of the pilot trainings, AIP Foundation Thailand staff metwith school administrators and coordinated with the teachers to expand on details about the project and discuss upcoming activities and how to best engage their students.

Introducing the Road Safety Learning Curriculum 2022

The curriculum promotesknowledge, understanding, and correct road survival attitudes for children and youth aged 13-15 who do not yet possess a driver’s license. These youths still drive and are often taught how to do so by family members. At theSafety DeliveredForum 2022 set to be hosted in Mid-December, key stakeholders will gather their feedback on how to integrate it into the main subjects taught at school.

The road safety learning curriculum taught among young people aged 13 – 15 years of age is different from other training courses in that it focuses on learning management with a roadside survival attitude, and the practice of safety skills so that learners have quality attitudes and behaviors on road safety. It also enables people to assess risks and dangers that may occur to themselves and others and know how to make decisions to avoid such risks and dangers on the road.

The legacy of the Safety Delivered Program

Safety Delivered is a program implemented by AIP Foundation to work with primary school students and motorcyclists in high-risk areas in India, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam by reducingroad crash injuries and fatalities among children and vulnerable road users through inclusive helmet distribution and education, combined with advocacy and awareness initiatives which target youth, community members, civil society, and governments to address high-risk road behaviors.
