MUMBAI, India – September 17, 2022

In India, although a national motorcycle helmet law requires all drivers and passengers to wear helmets, the World Health Organization (WHO) reports that only 30% of drivers and 10% of passengers wear helmets.

Each year, an estimated 299,091 people in India die due to road traffic fatalities. Riders of motorized 2- and 3-wheelers are particularly affected as a vulnerable road user group, comprising 40% of total road deaths.

India achieved a new milestone for road safety awareness at the Lilavati Lalji Dayal High School by engaging its youth during one of the biggest events in Mumbai forSafetyDeliveredprogram supported by The UPS Foundation.

College students from Lilavati Lilavati Lalji Dayal were involved to create a video for road safety awareness. The school teachers and all the official dignitaries took an oath for their students to be Ambassadors for Helmets for other school children and their community.

The Administrator of the school, Ms. Priyanka Panchal, also made an official announcement helmet wearing enforcement at the school. A symbolic helmet handover for students embodied the commitment of the school for youth engagement and safe youth mobility in India.
