MUMBAI, India - November 30,2019

With the aim of promoting the safety of students on roads, AIP Foundation traveled to Mumbai to launch various stakeholder meetings and begin preparations for the expansion of its Safety Deliveredprogram to India.

To prepare for program activities AIP Foundation launched a formal partnership with the Western India Automobile Association (WIAA) and presented the Safety Delivered program and its objectives to government stakeholders and education representatives at potential program schools.

AIP Foundation also met with senior traffic and transport officials of the Maharashtra State to further explain the need for the Safety Delivered program and to emphasize the importance of introducing helmet wearing education to students, as well as to improve their access to safety equipment in the form of quality helmets.

School representatives at potential program schools were provided with survey forms to determine the level of risk that students face due to conditions in the road environment around the school, such as the absence of a pedestrian crossing or road signage, as well as low helmet-wearing rates for students who are transported to school by motorcycle.

For Safety Delivered2019-2020 in India, AIP Foundation aims to distribute 2,000 helmets to students in Mumbai and will work in cooperation with schools and local stakeholders to promote the safety of students at schools with high road traffic risk.
