BANGKOK, Thailand – December 2, 2023

As part of the latest expansion of the helmet legacy program,Helmets For Kids, a teacher training session took place in Bangkok, Thailand. The training aimed to promote community awareness of the life-saving importance of increasing child helmet use.

In an effort to contribute to the global goal of reducing road injuries and fatalities by 50% by 2030 as set out by the World Health Organization, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA, the Royal Automobile Association of Thailand and AIP Foundation have joined together to implement theHelmets for Kidsprogram in Bangkok during the 2023-2024 Academic year.

On their daily commute to get an education, many children are at risk. Road crashes are the leading cause of death for children and young adults aged 5-29 years globally. The project is located on a road that is often plagued by dense traffic, with most students traveling to and from school on motorbikes with their families. This represents a public health crisis that disproportionately affects young people the most. It highlights the urgent need for preventive action. Helmets are a uniquely affordable and effective protection against head injuries on the road. Wearing a quality helmet can reduce the risk of death by 42% and the risk of serious brain injury by 69%.

The teacher training today focusing on helmets represented a unique opportunity for them to learn lifelong skills on how to be attentive on the road to adapt and behave more safely that they can pass on to their students. Education plays a crucial role in creating a new generation of road users who have the knowledge to act safer, ensuring the lasting impact of the program.\n
