As part of the expanding legacy of the Helmets for Kids program in Vietnam, supported by Johnson & Johnson an orientation workshop and teacher training took place to launch the program in April 2024. During the orientation workshop held earlier this month, AIP Foundation presented the project work plan and roles and responsibilities of the School Management Boards and teachers in implementing the work plan. Local government representatives, school principals, and teachers showed their strong commitment to the achievement of the program outcomes.

Safeguarding students on their journey to schools

On their daily commute to get an education, many children are at risk. Road crashes are the leading cause of death for children and young adults aged 5-29 years globally.

The project school this year is located on a road that is often plagued by dense traffic, with most students traveling to and from school on motorbikes with their families. This represents a public health crisis that disproportionately affects young people the most. It highlights the urgent need for preventive action. Helmets are a uniquely affordable and effective protection against head injuries on the road. Wearing a quality helmet can reduce the risk of death by 42% and the risk of serious brain injury by 69%.

The teacher training today focusing on helmets represented a unique opportunity for them to learn lifelong skills on how to be attentive on the road to adapt and behave more safely that they can pass on to their students. Education plays a crucial role in creating a new generation of road users who have the knowledge to act safer, ensuring the lasting impact of the Helmets for Kids program.

Growing legacy of the Helmets for Kids program across Vietnam

Johnson & Johnson has been a longtime and trusted partner of AIP Foundation since 2004, and this year, we are proud to celebrate 12 years of the Helmets for Kids program supported by Johnson & Johnson. From 2012 to 2022, the program has provided over 79,076 helmets to schools across Vietnamese provinces, in addition to providing tools and resources to ensure children in the community are commuting to school safely.
