BANGKOK, Thailand – October 15, 2025

The FIA Foundation and AIP Foundation met  with key stakeholders in Bangkok as part of theSafeguard – Helmet Advocacy Initiativein Thailand.These meetings were an important step in furthering the initiative’s goal of improving helmet policy implementation and enforcement across the country.

Four meetings were held on October 14 and 15 with key stakeholders, including the Royal Thai Police, Thailand Parliamentary Advisory Council for Road Safety, Thailand Automotive Institute, and theSafeguardWorking Group. Attendees of the Working Group meeting included leading experts from the World Health Organization, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Thailand Consumer Council, Road Accident Victims Protection Company, Thailand Industrial Standards Institute, Royal Thai Police, Department of Local Administration, Rotary International,epartment of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Thai Honda Co.Ltd.and Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health.

Improving motorcycle riders’ safety is essential to achieving the global goal of halving road deaths and injuries by 2030, and through this partnership we are committed to protecting lives and ensuring safer journeys for all road users,” shared Aggie Krasnolucka, Programmes Director at the FIA Foundation.

Dr. Terry Smith, who is an international helmet expert, Road Safety Specialist, and serves on the AIP Foundation Board of Advisors, and Agnieszka Krasnolucka, Programmes Director at the FIA Foundation, engaged in these stakeholder meetings on behalf of the FIA Foundation. Representatives from AIP Foundation included Ratanawadee H. Winther, Chairperson of AIP Foundation Thailand and Denmark, Jimmy Tang, Chief of Staff, Muslin Kunopasvorakul, Operations Manager, and Chaba Chaijaree, Senior Program Consultant.

Key milestones accomplished during this mission included:

• Hosting the first helmet advocacy Working Group meeting– This meeting provided an introduction for attendees, highlighting the project’s initial findings, outlining Working Group objectives, gathering feedback to improve upcoming activities,  and aligning each attendee’s respective roles in promoting helmet safety in Thailand. The meeting culminated in a dynamic idea-sharing and brainstorming session, with participation from over 17 representatives from the government, private, development, and non-profit sectors.
• Meeting with the Royal Thai Police– The meeting focused on examining current helmet enforcement challenges, strategies, and reviewing the effectiveness of the recent fine increase and point system in improving helmet use. The Royal Thai Police will be a key partner in the FIA Foundation and AIP Foundation’s work to improve enforcement and awareness-raising mechanisms.
• Meeting with the Thai Parliamentary Council on Road Safety –This meeting allowed for reviewing the Committee’s legislative priorities and initiatives and exploring potential opportunities for collaboration on helmet policy and campaign initiatives. AIP Foundation’s Thailand Chairperson, Ratanawadee H. Winther, wasappointed as a sub-committee member for the Council earlier this year.
• Site Visit at the Thailand Automotive Institute’s Helmet Standard Testing Lab –The visit focused on gaining an understanding of current helmet certification procedures and standards, laboratory capabilities, and opportunities for technical collaboration.
