Schools are the heart of communities around the world, and no child should fear their journey to school. To prevent further senseless risks that primary school students face, Prudential Vietnam is supporting the SAFE STEPS KIDS Road Safety Day as part of the SAFE STEPS KIDS – Road Safety (SSK-RS) program.

Road Safety Day empowers young students in Vietnam

Yen Bai is one of the chosen provinces to implement the 2023-2024 program, due to the provinces’ high need for road safety interventions. Kim Dong Primary School, Yen Ninh Primary School, Nguyen Viet Xuan Primary School, and Cam An Primary Schools are the chosen primary schools to participate in the Road Safety day. These, along with many primary schools in Yen Bai province, are located on high-density traffic roads, often overflowing with heavy traffic.

Approximately 750 students from 4 project schools in Yen Bai province as well as 75 teachers from the four schools, joined the road safety day hosted at Kim Dong School. The Road Safety Day was organized by AIP Foundation in collaboration with the provincial Traffic Safety Committee of Yen Bai and the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC), aimed to create an exciting playground for students in the province to have the opportunity to exchange, improve and strengthen their knowledge and skills on road safety. Throughout the day, students explored different ways to be safe on the roads through interactive games and booths, including a helmet decorating contest as well as other team-building activities.

“As educators, fostering a culture of safety around the school community is paramount. This Road Safety Day provided an opportunity for students and teachers to acquire safe mobility knowledge and skills that can save a life as well. By working together with fellow students, teachers, and esteemed organizations like the AIP Foundation and the National Traffic Safety Committee, we can create a ripple effect of awareness that extends beyond the school walls and contributes to a safer environment for our entire community and future generations,” shares Mr. Le Thanh Long, School Principal at Kim Dong School.

A sustainable regional program for road safety

The SSK-RS program is part of the SAFE STEPS KIDS program, developed by the Prudence Foundation in partnership with Cartoon Network and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC).

The program aims to equip millions of children across Asia with actionable information designed to save lives in the event of emergencies or disaster situations. To date, the program has been deployed in Asia, in Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.

This is the fourth year that the program has been implemented in Vietnam.
