SELANGOR, Malaysia - December 6, 2018

AIP Foundation Cambodia Country Director, Pagna Kim, and Development Coordinator, Jimmy Tang, joined road safety policymakers, researchers, and advocates at the 2nd Conference of ASEAN Road Safety 2018 (CARS) from 4-6 December in Selangor, Malaysia. Organized by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS), CARS provided road safety stakeholders with an opportunity to share best practices and discuss strategies to address the future of global road safety.

At this year’s conference, AIP Foundation received the 3M Road Safety Award for Southeast Asia for its helmet safety work in Cambodia through its program, Head Safe. Helmet On, supported by USAID Development Innovation Ventures (USAID-DIV), FIA Foundation, The UPS Foundation, and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The award was presented to Pagna Kim and recognizes one organization annually for their significant contributions to advancing road safety in the region. Head Safe. Helmet On was implemented from 2014 to 2016 and aimed to increase helmet wearing rates in target Cambodian communities through a combination of public awareness campaigns, school-based education, and government advocacy. The program increased helmet wearing rates by 70 percent and saved nearly three million dollars in saved medical costs across target communities.

Mr. Kim, presented on Head Safe. Helmet Onat CARS, joining representatives from the Malaysia Ministry of Transport, MIROS, and Nissan as a conference keynote speaker. Mr. Tang, also presented on Helmets for Families to share strategies and best practices related to AIP Foundation’s family-based helmet program in Vietnam.
