SONGKHLA, Thailand - September 5, 2025

The Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) has received research funding from the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) to conduct the "Evaluation and Implementation of Road Safety Policy to Achieve the Goals under the Fifth Master Plan, 2022-2024."Chaba Chaijaree, Senior Program Consultant for AIP Foundation Thailand, was invited to a convened small-group discussion on the project “Evaluation and Implementation of Road Safety Policy to Achieve Goals under the 5th Master Plan, 2022–2024" as part of her role leading theChevron Street Wiseprogram in Songkhla, Thailand.Overall,  theChevron Street Wiseproject has been reported as the best practice for implementation of road safety targeting youth and children in the provincial level in Songkhla, Thailand.

The objectives were to analyze the results of monitoring and indicators for loss reduction under the Fifth Master Plan, evaluate policy implementation, assess the consistency between indicators and measures, and analyze gaps in implementation. This is to further recommend guidelines for improving indicator target setting, increasing law enforcement efficiency, and synthesizing policies to support the work of policy-level and local agencies to achieve the risk reduction goals under the Fifth Master Plan.  The meeting brought together representatives from provincial agencies to exchange perspectives on the effectiveness of current measures to reduce road accidents and to identify opportunities for improvement.

“The dialogue today provided an important opportunity to hear directly from provincial agencies and partners about the progress and challenges in implementing the 5th Master Plan,” said Chaba Chaijaree, Senior Program Consultant at AIP Foundation Thailand. “By identifying gaps and sharing practical recommendations, we can strengthen coordination between local and central partners and ensure that policies are more effective in reducing road crashes and saving lives as part of the Chevron Street Wise program that we are implementing in Songkhla for over 10 years.”

The discussion highlighted key challenges and gaps in implementation, while also generating practical recommendations for strengthening the efficiency of provincial, district, and local road safety centers. Participants emphasized the importance of coordination between local administrative bodies and central-level agencies to achieve greater impact. Insights gathered from this provincial-level dialogue will directly contribute to synthesizing policy recommendations and supporting the achievement of risk reduction goals under Thailand's 5th Master Plan on Road Safety.
