SONGKHLA Province, Thailand – May 21-22, 2026

Climate change is a major global challenge that affects all sectors. The transportation sector specifically is responsible for nearly a quarter of global energy-related CO2 emissions. In an effort to contribute towards solving this global challenge, Thailand aims to achieve carbon neutrality and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Government agencies, educational institutions, private companies, and various other organizations have begun to recognize their role in mitigating this global issue. However, while these stakeholders have the potential to contribute to majorly reducing the impact of climate change, many lack practical guidelines or the proper skills to begin to make substantial impact.

In an effort to enhance its capacity to advance Thailand’s 2050 carbon neutrality goal, as well as to hold itself accountability for the role it plays in reducing the world’s energy emissions, AIP Foundation attended the “Carbon Neutral Event Workshop: From Understanding to Action” training program, organized by the Energy Systems Research Institute, Prince of Songkhla University (PERIN-PSU) and the Center for Economic Engineering. The workshop took place from May 21-22 in Songkhla, supported by Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd. as part of its Climate Action CSR program. 

In addition to AIP Foundation, participants included personnel from government agencies, educational institutions, private companies, and non-profit organizations. Key objectives of the two-day workshop included:

1. Enhancing participant knowledge and understanding of climate change and greenhouse gases, carbon neutrality, and approaches to organizing activities that effectively reduce and offset greenhouse gas emissions
2. Developing skills in planning low-carbon events, such as data collection and calculation of greenhouse gas emissions
3. Creating a “Carbon Neutral Community” network between the government, private sector, educational institutions, and non-profit organizations

Day 1 of the workshop focused on understanding and planning of low-carbon and carbon-neutral activities, while Day 2 focused on how to apply the acquired knowledge and skills to implement activities.

Participating AIP Foundation personnel and other attendees experienced key takeaways including:

• Gaining a comprehensive understanding of the concept and procedures for organizing carbon neutral events
• Increasing their ability to identify and calculate greenhouse gas emissions generated from their own events
• Development of action plans for implementation within each organization
• Establishment of a network of local-level carbon-neutral event organizers
